NSS-OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

MEANING OF NSS   :  NATIONAL SERVICE  SCHEME

NATURE   OF   NSS :  Social Service, a scheme of students sponsored by Ministry of Human resources Development, Department of youth affairs and sports  government of India for the under graduate students.

BIRTH   OF   NSS

 In September, 1969 during Gandhi Centenary Year and during 4^th five year plan.

MOTO  OF   NSS  :   “ NOT ME BUT YOU”

GOAL OF NSS :

Education through Community service and community service through education.

Objectives of NSS:

●       To enable the students to understand the community in which they work.

●       To understand themselves in relation to their community.

●       To identify the needs and problems in the community for the solution of which they can be involved.

●       To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.

●       To apply their education in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.

●       To develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities.

●       To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.

●       To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.

●       To develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters.

●       To practice national integration.

PROGRAMES  IN  NSS

The main intention of NSS Programs is to change the Attitude of volunteers through various activities within the Institutions and society.  The ministry has framed the following NSS Programs to give Life Skills Education to the Volunteers.

➢      Regular Activities

➢      Special Camping Programs

➢      Other Programs (University level )

Regular activities :

The program officer has to conduct these activities in the Institution for 240 hours in a year.

➢      Sramadhanam

➢      Plantation

➢      Blood donation 

➢      Aids awareness is only the regular activities.

But the NSS Program officer can also conduct the regular activities as per the academic background of the volunteers. The regular activities should be covered.

Guest   Lectures

➢      Career counseling

➢       Passport taking facilities

➢       Abroad education information

➢       Legal awareness

➢       Law and order

➢      Global Warming

➢      Supporting to government programs

➢      Health and hygiene

These programs should be conducted besides identified activities of the ministry of youth affairs and sports. If we conduct these programs even now NSS volunteers or also attracted towards NSS.  The main intention of these programs is to identify sincere, disciplined and talented volunteers for state and national level programs.

SPECIAL CAMPING PROGRAMMES

Campers enjoy the camp life; learn the virtues of good citizenship and render service to the community. These camps are organized for special project such as   “Youth   for   Development” which includes the following program-

     1.  Land Reform

     2. Non-Formal Education

     3. Environmental Improvement

     4. Afforestation

     5. Tree plantation

     6. Economic development

     7. Family and Child Care

     8. Social awareness etc.
